RenCom Announces Company Name Change to Lignin Industries AB
Swedish RenCom AB today announced that it will begin operating under a new name and be known as Lignin Industries.
Lignin Industries starts production of lignin-based material Renol®, to replace fossil-based plastics, with a capacity of more than 1000 tonnes/year
RenCom is proud to announce the start of production of Renol® that will make a true impact on the market and speed up the journey towards a world without fossil-based plastics. The installation of Coperion’s state-of-the art twin screw extruder was successful and production has already started, according to schedule.
Lignin Industries secures the supply of lignin for the start of production of more sustainable and bio-degradable polymers
Swedish innovation company RenCom aims to replace fossil-based plastic with products derived from the forest industry. One of these products is lignin. Together with Stora Enso, Rencom is working on the further valorisation of lignin where Lineo™ by Stora Enso is combined with biocomponents to create renewable and functional bio-granulates that can replace plastic in different applications.
Coperion supports RenCom in production of durable biomaterial
RenCom has chosen Coperion’s state-of-the art twin screw extrusion system to enable the production of RENOL®. Following comprehensive studies in Coperion’s extrusion test lab in Stuttgart, Germany, RenCom and Coperion were able to further develop the processing of this lignin-based material and transform it into durable, reusable biomaterial by using the ZSK twin screw extruder technology. RenCom will be able to produce up to 1000 tons RENOL® per year starting late 2020.
14 MSEK to produce forest based materials that will replace fossil-based plastics
The Swedish Energy Agency has granted SEK 14 million to RenCom – an innovation company active in making forest-based materials to replace fossil plastics. The support goes to a demonstration unit that will convert lignin from pulp mills in the size of 1000 tonnes per year in an industrially relevant scale.
"This support is an important milestone for our commitment in scaling up our lignin technology to become a leading player in the cross-section of the forest industry and the plastics industry through green chemistry," says Christopher Carrick, CEO of RenCom
"The demonstration can be a significant leap in the transition to more circular and bio-based products. Using lignin will contribute to a substantial biomass material efficiency, and the potential to transform the biobased economy. We believe it has a high industrial impact which will be important not only for the Swedish industry" says Klara Helstad, Head Sustainable Industry Unit at the Swedish Energy Agency.
